چکیده

TCP Westwood (TCPW) is a TCP protocol relying on a continuous estimation of the packet rate of a connection. Based on the ACK reception rate, a sender computes the congestion window and slow start threshold settings after a congestion period in the network. Given that, TCP throughput greatly depends on how fast and accurate these estimates are made. In this paper, we study TCPW ABSE bandwidth estimation effectiveness. This study was performed using scenarios intended to recreate some ad hoc networks’ characteristics, especially ACK compression effects, nodes mobility and load changes. Results revealed that TCPW ABSE gives negative bandwidth estimates. The second remark is that those estimates oscillate on a large scale. We introduced an enhancement to TCPW ABSE operation to fix these problems and validate it via simulations.

Using Adaptive Rate Estimation to Provide Enhanced and Robust Transport over Heterogeneous Networks

The rapid advancement in wireless communication technology has spurred significant interest in the design and development of enhanced TCP protocols. Among them, TCP Westwood (TCPW) is a sender side only modification to improve TCP performance particularly over heterogeneous networks. The key idea of TCPW is to use rate estimation methods to set the congestion window and slow start threshold aft...

A Survey of Solutions to Protect Against All Types of Attacks in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

In recent years mobile networks have expanded dramatically, compared with other wireless networks. Routing protocols in these networks are designed with the assumption that there is no attacker node, so routing protocols are vulnerable to various attacks in these networks. In this paper, we review the network layer attacks and then we simulate the impact of black hole attack on ad hoc on demand...

Estimating Reliability in Mobile ad-hoc Networks Based on Monte Carlo Simulation (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Each system has its own definition of reliability. Reliability in mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET) could be interpreted as, the probability of reaching a message from a source node to destination, successfully. The variability and volatility of the MANET configuration makes typical reliability methods (e.g. reliability block diagram) inappropriate. It is because, no single structure or configurat...

Improving Quality of Service Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Using OLSR

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) are constructed by mobile nodes without access point. Since MANET has certain constraints, including power shortages, an unstable wireless environment and node mobility, more power-efficient and reliable routing protocols are needed. The OLSR protocol is an optimization of the classical link state algorithm. OLSR introduces an interesting concept, the multipoint r...

A New Intrusion Detection System to deal with Black Hole Attacks in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

By extending wireless networks and because of their different nature, some attacks appear in these networks which did not exist in wired networks. Security is a serious challenge for actual implementation in wireless networks. Due to lack of the fixed infrastructure and also because of security holes in routing protocols in mobile ad hoc networks, these networks are not protected against attack...
